In the knitwear sector, when people talk about sustainability, the focus is almost always on the presence, or absence, of certifications, and on the technical characteristics of the materials used. It is a fact that these are essential aspects, yet at Maglificio Pini we believe that sustainability also involves another aspect: the ability to make informed decisions throughout the entire product development process..
Sustainability at every stage of the project
Our work is not limited to production. When we collaborate with a brand, we bring to the table all the expertise that allows us to view the project as a whole, therefore anticipating resource requirements and optimising their use. This means working methodically, minimising waste and excess, and, essentially, approaching every stage with clear accountability.
For our clients, this means being able to rely on a partner who supports them in every decision, putting their expertise at the service of the final result.
Every production choice, even the smallest one, carries weight: understanding its implications allows to create a more efficient process, one that is also more respectful of the value of the resources used.
Avoiding waste and limiting accumulation
The same principle also guides the management of the yarn books from the collections presented by mills. In practical terms, we have chosen to reduce our requests for seasonal colour cards and samples, favouring a more targeted use of the tools available. We regularly view the mills’ collections to keep up to date with the latest market developments, but we do so while avoiding unnecessary accumulation.
In addition, we keep general yarn books and request knit swatches and colour references only when they are genuinely necessary for the development of a project. Where possible, we make the most of online consultation, which is now available with all our partners: an approach that allows us to reduce unnecessary steps and streamline the entire process.
These are operational choices before they are declarative ones. Reducing the quantity of materials destined to remain unused means both avoiding waste and limiting the accumulation of materials that would otherwise end up being disposed of, thereby helping to minimise the environmental and economic impact throughout the supply chain.
