Maglificio Pini is among the companies selected by Intesa San Paolo and Premio Marisa Bellisario’s initiative, which promotes and supports women’s entrepreneurship

We have crossed a new milestone and are excited to share it: last November Maglificio Pini was given the Women Value Company Intesa Sanpaolo award.

Recognized as a special category of Premio Marisa Bellisario, Women Value Company is in its eighth edition and is dedicated to women’s entrepreneurship, to its promotion and valorization, and to companies that invest in gender equality and welfare.

Sustainability, innovation and focus on the individual

The 100 winning companies – among the over 1,400 applicants across Italy – were awarded in three stages in Florence, Milan and Naples. Maglificio Pini was present at the first stage in Florence with Lucia and Martina Pini.

What distinguishes the award-winning companies? The initiative focuses on the support to new female entrepreneurship, taking into account the safeguard of equality and diversity among the pillars of corporate culture. In addition, the 2024 edition is strongly linked to NRRP (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) missions, aimed at fostering increased female labor participation.

On a practical level, there were several factors considered essential for the growth and development of the different companies: sustainability, digitalization, technological innovation, human capital and training.

It seems almost unnecessary to remind how in the last years Maglificio Pini has stressed each of the points just mentioned.

To begin with, the approach to responsible use of resources. Three key elements have entered our everyday language and activities: environment, ethics and local area. For instance, just remember our willingness to be part of the evolved zero-waste integrated supply chain Re.Verso™, in order to reuse yarn waste and reduce our environmental impact.

We also believe that doing business can be a catalyst to change for the local area, for example by investing in the training of new generations, but also by taking part in social development projects. The focus on the people who work with us then translates into programs dedicated to the welfare and economic support which are available at the company.

Finally, we have written a new code of ethics for Maglificio Pini, which is available online for anyone to consult.

Female entrepreneurship’s contribution to Made in Italy

Speaking generally of female labor participation, the situation in Italy is anything but rosy: in 2023 the country ranked second to last in Europe for female activity rate, and this is surely not good news.

Yet women’s contribution is an extremely valuable resource, and a closer look at some data is enlightening:

  • The presence of women is particularly prominent in the administrations of companies working in the Made in Italy field, among which the fashion system stands out.
  • In particular, as a study of the Intesa Sanpaolo Research Department observes, in 47.4% of Benefit corporations – companies that have integrated the goal of having a positive impact on society and the environment into their corporate purpose – there is at least one woman on the board.
  • Speaking of future, female-dominated innovative startups have grown over the years, and today the percentage stands at 15.1%.

Human factor valorization, environmental sustainability and looking to the future: they seem to be three pillars that distinguish companies where the female component has greater decision-making power, and that can make a difference in a historical period in which uncertainty seems to hold sway.

Here at Maglificio Pini we try every day to make a difference, and this new award seems to prove that this direction is the right one.
